The ADA is important to many different stakeholders for many different reasons. The Northeast ADA offers a variety of training options to meet your needs! Together with our partners, we provide all levels of training on the ADA, from basic to advanced. We can provide trainings either in-person or using distance technology. Our faculty and staff will provide information on the human, legal, and practical issues of ADA implementation within contexts such as employment, programmatic and physical accessibility in state and local governments and creating a welcoming environment for all people in public accommodations. Content and timelines can be tailored to meet your needs. No matter the subject area, we will work with you to ensure that the content is both relevant and engaging for your audience. As an ADA Center, we feel that it is critical that we set the standard for providing trainings and events that are physically and programmatically accessible to all participants, including those with disabilities. Whether we are offering online training, or in-person training at our location or yours, accessibility will be our priority. We do this in two ways, by building in accessible features (i.e. using accessible webinar platforms, captioning archived webinars, choosing accessible locations, etc.) and by asking participants if they require accommodations to participate in our sessions.

Fee Structure

The Northeast ADA Center is funded by the National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research. As a result, we are able to offer trainings at a reduced cost to ADA Stakeholders in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our fees are based on a sliding scale depending on the source of the request. Please note that the entity requesting the training is responsible for costs associated with ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities. The fee structure will be explained further upon receipt of your training request.

ADA Stakeholder and their Interest in the Law

+ - People with Disabilities and their Families

The ADA spells out the rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities and the organizations in their community to ensure equal access for people with disabilities. However, it is not always easy to understand how these play out in real life. We can help you to understand your rights under the ADA, how the ADA might impact your job search or your work life, the role of the ADA in ensuring accessibility to state and local government services, and the obligations of hotels and restaurants in ensuring accessibility to people with disabilities.

The ADA makes it unlawful to discriminate against people with disabilities. But what does that mean in terms of the practices and policies you implement in your business? What can I ask during an interview? What do I do if someone tells me about a disability? We can help you understand how disability might impact your organizational policies and practices and how you can create a culture that embraces diversity as it relates to disability.

If you need to reach managers and supervisors within your organization, consider our Leading in a Disability Inclusive Workforce: The Just-in-Time Program. Using both intensive training and a website customized to your organization, the Just-in-Time Program enables employers to engage face-to-face leaders (managers and supervisors) in developing effective and legally compliant management practices for workers with disabilities. As a disability service provider you play a key role in both supporting employers to implement disability as diversity policies and practices and in supporting job seekers with disabilities in pursuing employment in their communities. Our staff can provide critical information on the rights and responsibilities of both job seekers with disabilities and employers under the ADA. We can fill you in on the latest trends in the employment of people with disabilities and let you know about critical emerging issues such as the use of pre-employment testing.

Not only do businesses that serve the public have obligations under the ADA to ensure that their facilities and services are accessible for people with disabilities, but it is also good for business! The Northeast ADA Center team can help you understand what accessibility for people with disabilities looks like, how you can make your services welcoming for people with disabilities, and the business benefits of serving customers and guests with disabilities.

+ - State/Municipal agencies

State and local governments have responsibilities to provide access to people with disabilities in the communities they serve. The Northeast ADA Center can help government entities and the programs they operate to understand what some of the technical language in the law might mean in practice. Topics might include how best to interact with people with disabilities, accessibility considerations in emergency preparedness and response, what it means to offer accessible programs and what structural accessibility means in your community and how you might approach self-evaluation and transition planning at your facility.

+ - Design Professionals

It can be difficult to manage the various requirements around accessible building code. The Northeast ADA Center and their partners can provide training on the ADA 2010 Accessibility Standards of Design, how these guidelines interact with state and local codes, and what accessibility in specific settings such as courthouses, jails, healthcare settings, or museums might look like.

+ - Veterans with Disabilities

A key part of turning goodwill into meaningful integration for returning veterans will be real actions that pave the way for returning veterans with disabilities to enter or re-enter their local communities and the civilian workforce. The Northeast ADA Center can provide information on the rights and responsibilities of veterans with disabilities under the ADA and other laws, the impact of signature disabilities on veterans, and best practices for integrating veterans with disabilities at work and in the community.

The National Network of ADA Centers provide numerous in person and distance learning opportunities for ADA Stakeholders to increase their disability related knowledge.
